The Southern Peru Copper Belt is an Eocene-Oligocene-aged belt hosting numerous productive copper-gold porphyry and skarn systems, including Las Bambas, Tintaya, Constancia, Haquira and Antapaccay.

The Achatayhua project has been described as stratified massive magnetite and haematite with epidote, secondary limonite and exposure of up to 200m wide and over 600m in outcrop length.

The magnetite is cupriferous, cut by quartz veins and breccias, with associated copper and gold anomalism. No drilling has been carried out to date which is the current plan of Chala Metals Ltd.
